What we do
We acquire businesses from founders and shareholders of long- established, successful businesses in practically any sector. We prefer to buy family-owned and family-run companies that have demonstrated steady income generation over years and decades and are now looking for the next stage.
About Clarent Equity
Why we do it
Private capital in the UK tends to chase “on-trend” sectors or businesses with “fashionable” characteristics. But there are plenty of great businesses that don’t fit this mould. We take the time to understand the value of these companies, providing founders and shareholders with a compelling exit option. We can work with existing management teams through buyout structures, or can manage ourselves on an interim basis until a quality new team can be found.
Established Business Focus
We are not dazzled by acronyms like SaaS, NRR or R40 - we seek businesses that have proven their worth with a multi-decade track record of operating successfully in their chosen fields. They generate cash and have a stable revenue profile. Customers love, trust and rely on them. We can help explore new growth avenues, including a buy-and-build strategy.
What businesses do we back
● 10+ year-old respected players in their core markets
● Cash-generative
● Well-regarded by customers
● Typically owned by family shareholders willing to invest time in arranging a majority exit
● £5m to £30m valuation
We don't care about
- Sector (but not ‘vice’ sectors)
- High revenue growth (but not regularly going backwards)
- High EBITDA margins (but not highly fluctuating)
“Clarent Equity are highly recommended!”

Working with us
People - we are seasoned investment professionals who have a long experience of the good, the bad and the ugly. We don’t operate in big teams - you will deal with us directly at all stages of the deal.
Culture - we are upfront, honest and humble. We typically engage industry experts from our networks to give us confidence in the quality of potential investments, and founders confidence in our credibility and ability to deliver.
Structure - we invest in majority deals with typical majority governance rights, and are open to longer term involvement from exiting founders and teams.
Capital - we will typically finance our investments through a combination of debt and equity. We are not a private equity fund and source the equity for our investments through a small network of trusted high net worth individuals.
